Yes, Tyvek does qualify for an energy tax credit. It is a “green” product because we help save energy (air barrier) and promote healthier indoor air quality by preventing mold and mildew from growing in the walls (permeable weather barrier). What you can do NOW!
Ever thought that if every American swapped out one ordinary light bulb for a fluorescent bulb, we'd save enough energy to light more than 2.5 million homes per year. We'd also cut carbon dioxide emissions--- the KEY factor/contributor to Global Warming. Here are some ideas to lead a more climate/friendly life.
- Install a whole-house tankless water heater, which automatically heats the water when a shower or faucets are turned on. It can save you up to 50% on your utilities AND you'll earn a $300.00 FEDERAL TAX CREDIT!!!
- Move your thermostat down two degrees in the winter and up two degrees in the summer. That saves about 2,000 lbs. of carbon dioxide per year. Clean or change furnace or AC filters once a month. Clogged ones restrict air flow, forcing your furnace to work harder.
- Windows---Replace single pane windows with High-Performance Low Emissivity coated glass. Don Young windows based here in Dallas follow the Energy Code of Texas. Adopted in Sept. 2003 the IRC (International Residential Code) & IECC (International Energy Conservation Code) are now available for homeowners to receive an Energy Tax Credit of $200.00 (max) or 10% of the cost of the job up to $2000.00. This credit is available on your tax forms.
- Traveling--While taking vacations, realize that airplanes are major polluters, but you can offset carbon dioxide emissions generated by your flight. Travelocity's Go Zero program (add it during checkout) makes a donation to The Conservation Fund which plants trees that absorb carbon dioxide. Expedia has partnered with Terra Pass, which funds a variety of green house gas-reductions programs. Carbon Dioxide friendly hotels include Marriott, Fairmont, Kimpton & Wyndham all are designed for energy efficiency and eco-friendliness. Their methods range from heating recovery power systems to energy efficient lighting. ***
- Rental Cars-EV Rental Cars is the 1st United States rental car company whose entire fleet consists of Hybrids which produce less pollution and get better gas mileage that gas powered cars. Enterprise rental is also adding Hybrids to their fleet. ***
- Shop at local farmers market!!!! You will reduce the amount of energy used to get food from grower to supermarket AND the food taste better.
- So many books and websites offer ways to deal with Global Warming. Be informed, educate yourselves to find practical ways to our environmental problems.
